Congratulations to Kyla for earning Athlete of the Month.
Kyla brings an upbeat attitude with every time she comes to class, often running from her place. Kyla has worked so hard recently improving her shoulder strength to get better at the Olympic movements, overhead movements, pull ups, and handstands. And of course her winning streak on our Saturday morning Double Under challenge may not be touched with her new rope. Kyla is CrossFit, her hard work, determination to improve, positive demeanor, commitment to the community, and encouragement of fellow athletes embody everything that is CrossFit.

When did you become a member at WC? December 2015
What do you do when you're not at WC? Make art/crafts, go thrift store shopping, hang out with my nieces and nephews, keep people organized and make their jobs easier (admin assistant)
When did you realize crossfit is right for you? At on-ramp when Nate said "jump rope" ;)
What's your favorite WOD/movement? I like metcon/bodyweight workouts. Fast and furious WODs are especially fun. Annie is my favorite Benchmark WOD so far (DUs and situps). I also like doing slamballs, they make me feel like The Hulk.
What's your least favorite WOD/movement? I'm not a huge fan of most movements with the barbell above my head, especially overhead squat... but I'm working on it!
What is one thing you have done at WC that you never thought u would do? 2+ strict pull-ups. I'm hoping to soon be able to add HSPU to this category.
What motivates you during a WOD? The clock, all my peeps working hard around me, and chasing down a recorded time from a previous class (thank you 6am-ers)
What is something about yourself we may not know? A previous co-worker of mine was deaf and inspired me to take sign language classes several years ago. I am out of practice, but I still know some. It is a fascinating visual language and I daydream sometimes about taking more classes and becoming an ASL interpreter.
What advice would you give someone just getting started with crossfit? Decide your gym schedule for the week and commit to it. Don't get picky about which WODs you attend (i.e. attending only the WODs you are most comfortable with or good at). If the workout/movement is outside your comfort zone, scale as needed, push through the frustration, and remember this is where improvements are made.
