Congratulations Allison Fedewa for earning Athlete of the Month August 2017.
Anyone who has worked out with Allison understands how focused she is on getting better each and every day. Her confidence in the movements has grown so much throughout the summer, she continues to surprise herself with her strength, and she is an inspiration to the athletes around her.
A few words from Allison:
When did you become a member at WC?
What do you do when you're not at WC?
I work for the Department of Corrections in Human Resources where I do anything from processing payroll to hiring employees and conducting orientations. When I am not at WC or work I enjoy spending time with my niece and nephews, fiancé, family and friends. I also enjoy being on the farm, baking, and running.
When did you realize CrossFit is right for you?
After a lot of training and competing in different races I was starting to become burned out from daily running. I was looking to try something different. A friend suggested I try CrossFit, specifically Williamston CrossFit. I realized it was right for me when I started looking forward to my workouts again, rather than feeling like it’s a chore. There aren’t many things I choose to get up at 6AM for.
What's your favorite WOD/movement?
This may sound crazy but one of my favorite WOD’s that have stuck out to me would be 100 burpees with the 200 meter sprints. And I am also a sucker for anything on the track!
What's your least favorite WOD/movement?
My least favorite WOD/Movement is probably strict press or rowing.
What is one thing you have done at WC that you never thought u would do?
Become a 6AMer….But seriously, probably getting the hang of snatches or double unders. I remember the first WOD with snatches…. It wasn’t pretty.
What motivates you during a WOD?
Music and encouragement from coaches and other athletes. Oh and being a touch competitive!
What is something about yourself we may not know?
Many people at CrossFit might not know how much I love to bake and cook for my friends and family. My dream would be to own my own bakery or catering company. I love to make up different recipes and add different twists onto recipes.
What advice would you give someone just getting started with CrossFit?
My advice would be to show up for the WOD’s that seem impossible. Sometimes I see the WOD posted and think “There is no way I can do that.” Before you know it the workout is done and I feel accomplished. I’ve learned there are going to be workouts that seem absolutely miserable throughout but there is no greater feeling then completing a WOD to start the day. I always used the phrase “The faster you run the faster you’re done”… Unless it’s an AMRAP of course!
I like… weekends
I eat... sweet potatoes
I do… shop
